Usual Suspect – The Mizell Brothers

April 1 @ 20 h 00 min - 23 h 59 min

Presented by Vito Nicholas

“The work of space exploration is not unlike the world of music. Both reach into the unknown and innovate new technology to expand the reach of humanity’s curiosity for exploration.” – Tana Yonas

If it sounds a little too fitting for a production team of two brothers with a golden touch; it’s because it’s in their DNA.

While Larry worked as an electrical engineer for NASA’s Apollo Program, Fonce was busy writing, arranging, and producing the Jackson 5’s first three platinum records with Motown.

An infectious and prodigious love for music – as explorers of new sounds, but also for playing and composing together – makes the Mizell Brothers records special and instantly recognizable. The idiosyncratically-chanted falsetto choruses, grooves that are as funky as they are hypnotic, and jazz or cosmic patterns that lure the listener while never distracting from the composition as a whole – whether with Bobbi Humphrey, Donald Byrd, or Johnny Hammond.

The gems in their work were given a second life by the great artists who have sampled Larry & Alphonso – Moodymann, Theo Parrish, 2Pac, Erykah Badhu, Madlib, Public Enemy, Kendrick Lamar, Madlib and Nas to name a few.
